Hard start of the diesel engine

  1. Hard start of the diesel engine heats up as opposed to the easy cold start may be due to the high pressure fuel pump fault that is connected to the plunger brace. As the fuel heats up, its viscosity decreases and hydraulic loss increases. In this case, the plunger can not generate enough pressure to open the nozzle during engine startup and the fuel is not moved into the combustion chamber.
  2. In the modern diesel engine failure of warm boots can be connected to the failure of the sensor of the nozzle operation. One of the engine nozzles is equipped with a temperature sensor motor. When the engine starts to cool, the sensor commands the injection angle change and fuel the fuel in the filter (if the engine is equipped with such a system). If the sensor is broken, it will give the same command with warm startup as when cold startup. As a result it leads to overfueling, the appearance of steam locks in the fuel stream and engine startup is difficult.

Recommendations

  1. In case of uncritical wear of plunger pairs of diesel engine high pressure fuel pump it is not necessary to replace the fuel pump. It is recommended to conduct fuel system flush introducing in the fuel tank one of the cleaning agents for fuel systems of diesel engines:
    • VERYLUBE Fuel system cleaner (Diesel)
    • MultiCleaner (Diesel) –fuel system cleaner for diesel engine
After flushing treat the fuel system with one of the following XADO gel Revitalizant® products for fuel systems for restoration of plunger pairs from wear:
    • XADO Revitalizant® for fuel equipment
    • XADO Revitalizant® EX120 for fuel equipment
After treatment of the fuel system with XADO Revitalizant® it is strongly recommended to use Jet 100 FuelPumpProtectDiesel – Agent for protection of fuel system (Diesel) once per 6,000 miles of run in order to protect the high pressure fuel pump from possible application of low-quality fuel and from future wear of plunger pairs.
  2. By malfunction of the engine temperature sensor on the operating nozzle the sensor should be replaced.
